Our first day, a mix of excitement and nervousness at the start but once we got to know each other and reviewed what we were going to do, everyone put his best.
This week we will meet via ZOOM, they have been using it but since we all were told by the school authorities that next period Google Classroom and Meet will be the standard, on Monday I'll be using the new platform so we all can start adopting this technology new for us. I'll have to check the available extensions for Meet and keep Padlet for the warm-ups and as a plan to the activities for each day.
To start our reflection we talked about our experience with the online classes, their workload (online, homework, fun activities,...), and main interests. Last week, I proposed to read "The one and only Ivan", so they wanted to read right away, before that we watched the video on the real story behind the book and the expectation grew. At their homes, they opened their book and read, I started reading aloud, and later switched to the audiobook. It actually felt like we heard Ivan himself and his thoughts (a man's gravelly voice).
Then we talked about the future and the skills we will be working on these three weeks. To my surprise, they are looking forward to the Frech lessons. That is more than I expected and the first exercises proved they have fully committed.
Overall we had a great start, we spent more time in some of the activities. I'm passing them for tomorrow since we consumed more time than expected at the etiquette, signing in. Also, my students asked to extend the reading time.
Wednesday I will know for sure what pace I can establish for the group and adjust the plan accordingly.
