Some of my young students say they will like to be astronauts when they grow up. During classes, we have been talking about our home here on earth and how the quarantine is an opportunity to spend time and rethink about our footprint on the environment.
For the warm-up we talked about the alternatives to the risk to life on Earth, the current Pandemic might be a remote example of what may come in our lifetime.
On one side there is the promise of a vaccine, we have to be realistic about the timeframe, there are four real initiatives by local institutions, nevertheless, it is highly probable Mexico will depend on foreign R&D since as today's collaboration between the authorities, the research institutions, laboratories, and logistics seems to be at a low and a standstill.
So we speculated about the possibility of "Going to mar for humanity to survive" and recent advancements like the Hope mission.
Some of their thoughts were:
- Going to mars is part of humankind's exploration nature, this mission means a huge investment, humanity should be also investing in preserving our home planet.
- Once, man gets to Mars what is he going to do, exploit another planet? And then, we will have two planets to heal?
Back to Earth, for the time being, we decided to manage the risk and strictly follow the WHO and other Institutions on the directions for preventing COVID contagion.
Pour la classe de français on a commencé a prier Notre Père et Je Vous Salue Marie.
